The Hidden Cost of Migration: Your Testing Network
Technology migrations are often approached as architectural challenges, focused on adopting new stacks, frameworks, or interfaces. However, one critical aspect is frequently underestimated: the impact on the testing network. In mature systems, this network represents years of validated behavior, traceability, and accumulated confidence. Losing or rebuilding it during migration introduces hidden costs, delays adoption, and increases risk.
This talk presents a practical approach to modernizing systems while preserving the testing network as a strategic asset. Through two real-world, anonymized MedTech case studies, we demonstrate how to separate functional intent from technical implementation, allowing testing assets to evolve without losing meaning or traceability. Instead of rewriting tests from scratch, the focus is on targeted intervention, reusing validated behavior and adapting only what is strictly necessary.
We also explore the role of artificial intelligence as an accelerator in this process. AI can significantly reduce the effort of migrating interaction layers and optimizing test catalogs, but it does not replace expert validation.
Attendees will gain a clear strategy to reduce migration cost, preserve confidence, and enable sustainable evolution.
What will attendees learn?:
- How to approach technology migrations without losing the testing safety net
Understand why testing is the hidden risk in modernization and how to preserve it instead of rebuilding it. - How to separate functional intent from technical implementation in testing
Learn how to design or evolve a testing network that can survive changes in frameworks, languages, and architectures. - A practical migration strategy based on real-world cases
Discover how to migrate only what is necessary (interaction layers, execution engines) while reusing validated behavior and maintaining continuity. - How to preserve traceability and confidence during change
Especially in regulated environments, learn how to maintain requirement coverage and evidence without restarting validation from scratch. - Where AI adds real value and where it does not
Understand how AI can accelerate migration tasks such as code transformation and test catalog optimization, and why it still requires human supervision
