How to fight back IT energy consumption by testing?
The IT industry is increasing its energy usage and carbon emissions at an accelerating pace. The current software development paradigm is built on unsustainable assumptions. We need to act before it is too late and change the way we think about software.
QA and testing are critical for ensuring that software is functional, meets requirements, and is energy-efficient. Too little effort has been devoted to measuring, controlling, and fixing energy-hungry software.
This session explores why and how IT systems consume ever more energy, the core beliefs driving inefficient software, and how testers can challenge the dominant paradigm of boundless energy consumption. We will also discuss how to measure energy efficiency. After this session, you will understand the basics of IT energy consumption, recognize the impact of your work, and see the next steps to make the world a better place—test by test.
