DevTestOps: AI-Driven Security, Quality and Testing for Embedded Systems
Embedded systems are the backbone of several industries, yet ensuring quality and security in each new version of the system presents significant challenges. This work explores the integration of DevTestOps into embedded development, leveraging CI/CD tools to automate the entire process. Key aspects include containerized compilation, automated unit and integration testing, and continuous quality and security checks (SAST) at every code merge. We also examine the role of generative AI assistants, such as GitHub Copilot, in enhancing DevTestOps. We highlight tools like SonarQube for code analysis and AI-generated content validation, as well as Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) management and OWASP Dependency-Track to mitigate risks from third-party dependencies and ensure compliance with industry standards. A real-world case study in C language, demonstrates how embedded software development can seamlessly integrate into DevTestOps. By leveraging AI for test generation, we assess the effectiveness of AI-generated test cases in identifying vulnerabilities and optimizing coverage, making shift-left testing a reality. Through the implementation of CI/CD pipelines, we provide practical insights into enhancing security, streamlining testing, and improving software reliability in embedded and IoT systems—ensuring compliance while accelerating development speed and efficiency.

Beatriz Pérez Lamancha
I hold a Ph.D. in Advanced Information Technologies from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain, 2012) and a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of the Republic (Uruguay). With over a decade of experience teaching Software Engineering at the University of the Republic, I am also a founding member of the Software Testing Center in Uruguay. My professional experience includes roles as a Testing Lead and Quality and Testing Consultant, contributing actively to numerous software projects. Since 2016, I have led Quality Assurance at LKS NEXT Group, part of the MONDRAGON Corporation (Basque Country, Spain), overseeing quality and testing activities across various projects. My work focuses on optimizing software production and product quality through Continuous Testing within agile and DevSecOps environments.
Nerea Larrañaga
Nerea Larrañaga is a Junior Software Quality Engineer at LKS Next (Spain), where she contributes to the continuous improvement of software quality processes, with a particular focus on secure and efficient development practices. She earned her B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2024, with a concentration in Software Engineering.
Her professional interests lie at the intersection of software quality, DevSecOps, and secure software development life cycles. She is involved in the integration of automated quality assurance pipelines, the implementation of secure coding practices, and the alignment of development processes with industry standards and compliance frameworks. She is also engaged in the adoption of modern software engineering methodologies that combine agility, quality, and security from the early stages of software design.
She is currently contributing to projects aimed at strengthening quality and security assurance across complex enterprise systems, while continuing to develop her expertise in software lifecycle automation, continuous testing, and risk-based quality management in software ecosystems.
